Ueno Park,National Museum,Ame Yoko

Starting from Ueno Station, we will visit the Science Museum, National Museum, and Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum. Next, go to Kaneiji Temple through the cherry blossom trees in Ueno Park, and walk to Okachimachi Station while eating and shopping next to Ameyoko near Shinobazu Pond.

Ueno Station Park Exit

It is a ticket gate used when going to Ueno Park, especially zoos and museums, and is located near Uguisudani Station and Nippori Station up the stairs from the platform. Yamanote Line-Station number “JY 05”

March 2020 Moved the park exit ticket gate of Ueno Station to the new station building on the north side of 100m. In the new station building, the road has been rotaryized and the front of the station building has become a pedestrian square.

The clock tower of Ueno Park is located in the pedestrian square just outside the station. I think it is the best meeting place for the park exit of Ueno Station. You can sit on the bench and relax.

National Museum of Nature and Science (30 minutes)

The main message is “Aiming for the coexistence of humankind and nature.” In the two buildings, “Japan Pavilion” and “Earth Pavilion”, exhibition themes are set for each floor, and exhibitions are centered on high-quality and abundant actual specimen materials.

Tokyo National Museum (30 minutes)

Founded in 1872, it is the oldest museum in Japan. Located in Ueno Onshi Park. As of March 2021, the total number of collections including 89 national treasures and 648 important cultural properties is 119,942.

Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum (30 minutes)

Opened in 1926 (Taisho 15) as Japan’s first public art museum. We hold many exhibitions such as special exhibitions, open call for participants, and self-organized exhibitions where you can enjoy domestic and foreign masterpieces. There are plenty of restaurants and museum shops.

Opening hours 9: 30-17: 30 Closed days: 1st and 3rd Mondays * Admission is free.

Ueno Zoo (30 minutes)

In 1972, a giant panda visited Japan to commemorate the restoration of diplomatic relations between Japan and China, and it was very lively.

Gojoten Shrine (30 minutes)

Gojoten Shrine, the ancestral god of medicine, is a 3-minute walk from the park exit of Ueno Station. As a benefit, since it enshrines the two pillars of the Yakusojin, there are prayers for health and healing of illness.

Shinobazu Pond Bentendo (30 minutes)

“Shinobazunoike Bentendo” is a temple built during the Kanei era in the early Edo period by the high priest of the Tendai sect, “Tenkai Monksei,” who was closely associated with Ieyasu Tokugawa.

Shinobazunoike Boating Ground is located on the Bentenjima side of the boat pond and is connected to Shinobazunoike Houtendo by a bridge.

Kaneiji Temple Kiyomizu Kannon-do (30 minutes)

Kiyomizu Kannon-do was built in 1631 and was only repaired during the Anei era (1772-1781). It is the oldest temple in Ueno that retains the old view of the early Edo period, nearly 300 years ago. 

The number of cherry blossoms is about 800. It is a famous place for cherry blossoms from the early Edo period. Ueno Park Late March.

The weeping cherry tree in Kiyomizu Kannon-do called “Akiiro Sakura” is famous.

Currently, cherry-blossom viewing with eating and drinking is prohibited.

Saigo Takamori Statue

The reason why the statue of Saigo Takamori is in Ueno is that the land where Saigo Takamori invaded the Edo Shogunate as a new government army was Ueno.

Ameyoko (30 minutes)

Ameyoko (Ameyoko) is a place name and shopping street name in Taito-ku, Tokyo.

It is a shopping district with about 400 stores centered on the west side of the viaduct between Okachimachi Station and Ueno Station and about 500 to 600 meters under the overpass.

The catch phrase is “face-to-face sales, which are even cheaper depending on negotiations.”

Okachimachi Station

Okachimachi Station is a JR East station located in Ueno 5-chome, Taito-ku, Tokyo. The station numbers are JK 29 on the Keihin Tohoku Line and JY 04 on the Yamanote Line.
